My journey into medicare supplement insurance
Many years ago, I used to sell cemetery plots and funeral arrangements pre-need. I was visiting a potential client and she asked me since I had an insurance license if I sold Medicare supplement plans to seniors. I said no and she says, "Well I am going to get my cemetery and funeral arrangements done with you, but before I do that I need you to to find out if I can get a better price for my Medicare supplement insurance." I said I don’t know about it and she says "Go find out and then I will get my arrangements done."
So I made some calls and did some checking, and found out that all insurance companies sold the same exact plans, and that the only difference was the price you pay. Well, as the story goes, Blue Shield of CA seemed to be her best price at her age. I called to inform her of what I found, and that she could save $62 a month for the same thing with Blue Shield. She said "Fantastic! bring that paperwork with you when you come." I said, "I am not appointed with Blue Shield to do that," to which said says, "Well, then get appointed."
So I did. And when we met I took care of her funeral arrangement and changed her Medicare supplement to Blue Shield.
That's when I changed careers. I thought to myself if every company sold the same exact plans and the only difference was the price, then why wouldn’t an agent carry every company and keep the clients with the very best?
